John's
Priorities

I will work hard to uphold democratic values and help local governments find smart, affordable ways to balance budgets, protect the environment, and improve public access to health care, housing, education, and employment.

Affordable Housing

We need bold yet practical solutions to the affordable housing crisis. I support converting underused spaces — like commercial buildings — into affordable or senior housing, especially near transit and services. Stronger partnerships and planning policies can ease the burden on working families and reduce long commutes.

2

Environmental Protection & Green Energy

I’ve spent decades in environmental advocacy — locally through CLEAN and globally through agricultural work. I support solar development on brownfields, rooftops, and even integrated into farmland (agrovoltaics). Clean water and soil are vital for health and sustainability. I’ve long advocated for stronger protections for Cayuga Lake and oppose the long-term risk of the Cargill salt mine.

3

Smart, Inclusive Economic Development

I believe in smart fiscal policy that supports growth while protecting essential services. I will support workforce development, equitable hiring, and opportunities that serve all sectors of our community — small businesses, trades, and new industries alike.

4

Living Wage & Worker Rights

While the county doesn’t set the minimum wage, we can ensure county employees and contracted workers earn a living wage and work in safe conditions. I support county-level incentives that encourage fair labor practices and long-term employment.

5

Healthcare Access

I’m deeply concerned about local healthcare access — especially the gaps in dental care recently highlighted by local surveys. I will support efforts to expand county-level programs and partnerships that help all residents access basic health services without traveling long distances.

6

Infrastructure & Access

I support investments in infrastructure that make our communities more connected, walkable, and safe — like sidewalk expansion projects in places like Lansing and Dryden. Improved roads, green spaces, and accessible transit are essential to long-term equity and safety.

7

Homelessness & Housing Support

Every resident deserves dignity, no matter their housing status. I support solutions rooted in housing first approaches, mental health services, and compassionate reintegration strategies that prioritize safety and stability. I will advocate for respectful, community-driven strategies — not criminalization or displacement.

8

Community Voice & Inclusion

My campaign is grounded in listening. I want every voice — including underrepresented and rural constituents — to be part of the conversation. I will hold regular office hours, respond directly to residents, and advocate for transparency and community engagement in all decisions.
